D-Cell bending automation
PRODUCT REVIEWS
LVD has introduced D-Cell , which it describes as “ its most competitively priced robotic bending cell .”
“ D-Cell makes robotic bending an easy choice for sheet metalworking businesses of all sizes and capacities . The system combines a 50-ton hydraulic press brake with KUKA industrial robot and our unique programming software ,” said the sheet metal specialist .
“ As manufacturers look to balance costs , quality , throughput and agility , D-Cell offers the flexibility to handle production of a wide range of parts with fast throughput , in varying batch sizes , and at a minimised cost ,” it added .
At the heart of D-Cell is the PPED press brake for a variety of bending jobs . Rigid construction , a welded one-piece frame and servo-controlled hydraulic system are designed to ensure consistent bending results . The press brake delivers 50 tons of pressing force and has a 2000mm working length with a four-axis back gauge . It can handle part sizes from 35 x 100mm up to 400 x 600mm with a part weight of up to 4kg .
D-Cell features the same powerful
automatic programming software as LVD ’ s Dyna-Cell and Ulti-Form robotic bending systems . Using CADMAN ® software , D-Cell accelerates ‘ art to part ’ production in 20 minutes or less . It generates the bending and robot program automatically in ten minutes and then takes ten minutes for set-up and first part production .
“ No robot teaching is needed , making D-Cell easy to program no matter the user ’ s experience level . To simplify its operation , the system uses one interface and one controller for both press brake and robot ,” added LVD .
A universal gripper designed by LVD handles different part sizes , bends up to three flanges without regripping and moves between tool stations .
“ Its universal application saves investment in custom grippers , reduces changeover time and keeps production continuous ,” LVD told ISMR . “ D-Cell is a compact unit , requiring only 5000mm x 5200mm of floor space . The cell provides four input pallets with inclined plane for different part formats , a centre station and output pallets or boxes . With a high input of raw material and a high output
capacity , long production runs are possible .” D-Cell is also able to operate in manual mode with back gauge fingers configured for both robotic and manual bending .
LVD is a leading manufacturer of sheet metalworking equipment including laser cutting systems , punch presses , press brakes , guillotine shears and automation systems , integrated to and supported by its CADMAN ® software suite . n

Making a splash
CMS is expanding its offer with Tecnocut Proline , a waterjet cutting system designed as a machining centre . Feauturing a compact and sturdy monolithic structure , it is suitable for intensive use or where cutting tolerances and repeatability are requested .
“ This innovative , easy configurable concept not only has the 330kg abrasive tank installed on-board , but the electric high-pressure pump ( 4,150- or 6,200 bar ) and the dredging system for abrasive removal are integrated with the machine frame , a big saving in terms of overall layout ,” explained CMS .
The system is suitable for both manufacturing processes , starting from a wide range of materials , and for mechanical machining processes , where an initial stage of waterjet roughing is requested to bring down the cost of tool-machine finishing . Thanks to its numerous sensors and IoT protocols , Tecnocut Proline can convey information about the machine and its machining status in real-time , on the CMS Connect cloud platform .
CMS connect can offer personalised micro services through the use of the IoT Apps that support the everyday activities of industry operators , improving the availability and use of the machines and systems . The platform views , analyses and monitors all the data emitted by connected machines . The data gathered by the machines in real-time becomes useful information to increase productivity and reduce operating / maintenance costs as well as energy costs . n

Automated vehicles
At this May ’ s Automate show in Detroit , Michigan ( USA ), AGV / AMR navigation specialist , BlueBotics , highlighted how its ANT server management software enables the creation of multi-brand fleets . Its team also joined forces with partner , Oceaneering Mobile Robotics , to host a seminar dedicated to building the business case for automated vehicle technology .
The seminar spanned manufacturing and intralogistics , featuring two detailed case studies from the automotive sector .
“ As the AGV market grows and continues to mature , more businesses are realizing the need for scalable custom fleets which can incorporate different types and even brands of vehicle ,” said BlueBotics CEO , Nicolas Tomatis . “ Our team was happy to explain to Automate ’ s visitors how the ANT navigation platform ( in particular , our ANT server software ) can enable that .
“ Today the mobile robotics market is thriving due to hiring and retention challenges , and the need to build more productive , competitive and resilient businesses ,” added Dr . Tomatis . n
