Deburring is the removal of irregularities and sharp edges on metal products . The burrs are tiny pieces of metal that are stuck to the surface of the sheet metal , mostly around the cut edges . These are caused by machining work such as laser , waterjet , punch- or plasma cutting . The deburring of sheet metal products can be a time-consuming process , especially when done by hand . Machines that can handle deburring tasks are therefore a welcome addition to a sheet metal workshop .

A smooth and non-absorbent surface can be cleaned more easily and has low adhesion . This makes it beneficial in industries , such as food and pharmaceuticals , where hygiene is top-priority and the risk of bacterial adhesion should be minimised . Rough surfaces are harder to clean , more sensitive to friction and also offer resistance to moving objects , due to their many irregularities .

Dutch surface finishing specialist , Timesavers International , offers a range of budget machines for deburring , edge breaking , slag removal and finishing . Its three smallest machines are the 10 series , 12 series and 22 series .
The 10 series is a starter model known as the manual grinder . This machine has two heads that can be fitted with various types of abrasive tooling . While grinding discs can be used for deburring and finishing , there are also brushes available for edge rounding , laser oxide removal or slag removal . Users can switch to another application by turning the head or changing the type of brush . The table is 1300 x 800mm and has a vacuum part in the middle to keep smaller parts in place . Anyone , Timesavers told ISMR , can operate the 10- series .
Another of Timesavers ’ smaller machine solutions is the 12 series , suitable for deburring and finishing products up to a thickness of 125mm . These are used worldwide for the processing of small and larger parts of up to 600mm . The magnet in the transport table ensures that smaller objects can also be deburred .
