AI-supported bin picking

Bin-picking solution for the fully automated handling of unsorted long goods.
A new bin-picking solution from Remmert that combines industrial robotics, 3D vision and artificial intelligence will be a particular highlight at LogiMAT, a European event for intralogistics from 24-26 March 2026 in Stuttgart, Germany. The system can separate bars, tubes and profiles weighing up to 300kg using optical recognition. It can be fully integrated into Remmert’ s long goods’ storage systems, making it suitable for supplying materials to production machines and picking customer orders.
The newly developed bin-picking solution for fully automated handling of unsorted long goods was developed jointly with the Fraunhofer IOSB-INA Institute. It enables the robot-assisted manipulation of bars, pipes and profiles of metal or plastic with a unit weight of up to 300kg. The solution particularly addresses applications where long goods were previously picked manually.
“ Thanks to the combination of industrial robotics, 3D vision and AI-based object recognition, disordered materials can be automatically removed and manipulated directly from load carriers. A central feature is AI-supported image recognition. It reliably detects the position of packed and unpacked long goods in load carriers, as well as the ideal storage position. Vacuum, magnetic or mechanical gripping tools are available for removal. Automatic tool changing is also possible,” outlined Remmert.
“ With this concept, we are consistently transferring bin picking to long components— an area that was previously hardly automated and required a high level of personnel deployment,” said Hugo Allemann, Commercial Director, Remmert GmbH.“ By using AI and 3D vision, we achieve a level of flexibility that enables automation, even for long goods with many variants and disordered goods.”
Software and service
Integrated software platform for warehouse management and material flow.
In addition to the robotics solution, Remmert will also be presenting its next-generation software concept at Logimat under the motto“ Integrated Solutions.” The focus is on its newly developed Warehouse Management System( WMS), which combines warehouse management and material flow control in one integrated platform and significantly simplifies the integration of external machines.
“ We will also present myRemmert, a digital service tool that supports technical support and maintenance of systems. Among other things, the solution offers a helpful ticket function for service support requests and creates the basis for proactive, data-based service,” added Remmert.
Storage and automation specialist, Remmert, will present solutions for storing and handling sheet metal and long goods at three trade fairs this March: TECHNISHOW in Utrecht( the Netherlands), STOM in Kielce( Poland) and LogiMAT in Stuttgart( Germany). A key focus will be automated manipulation solutions. For sheet metal, Remmert will promote its own universal laser automation, as well as its ability to integrate the Remmert sheet metal storage system with other robotic solutions. n

Making a deep impression

A servo hydraulic press model from Sigma Presse.
Sigma Presse designs and manufactures customised hydraulic presses, with tonnages of up to 50,000kN( 5,000 tons). Its staff has thirty years of experience in both standard and special hydraulic press sectors.
Based at Stezzano, in the province of Bergamo( Italy), its hydraulic press portfolio is varied. It includes hydraulic presses for the production of counterweights and pipe calibration as well as 2-4 column presses, gasket presses and ecological presses. The presses can process sheetmetal( coining, shearing, deep drawing, bending); aggregates( counterweight
production plant for household appliances); pressing / sintering of metal powders; steel pipes; moulds and composite materials. Automotive work includes the processing of heat shields and moulding of body work parts and car interiors.
“ Our ENERGY SAVE programme offers servo presses with high energy-efficient hydraulic systems, which enables users to reduce energy consumption from 40 % to 60 % compared to a traditional hydraulic system. It also allows a considerable reduction of noise for better acceleration and speed. The ENERGY SAVE system almost eliminates the overheating of hydraulic oil and therefore reduces its deterioration, as well as saving energy by reducing heat,” explained Sigma Presse. n
