PRODUCT REVIEWS

Salvagnini has announced a new webinar dedicated to P2-1620, its latest-generation panel bender. The webinar will take place on Tuesday 20 May 2025 at 10:30am and will be freely accessible upon registration. The new compact and flexible panel bender model from the Italian sheet metal specialist was launched at the EuroBLECH exhibition in Hanover, Germany, last October.
During the webinar, Nicola Artuso( Salvagnini product manager for bending technologies) will guide participants through the main technical features of the P2-1620, illustrating practical application cases in the furniture, electronics and HVAC sectors. Real parts will be shown and cost analysis demonstrated to outline the cost per bend.

Flexible bending options
“ The P2-1620 panel bender is designed to combine productivity, flexibility and precision in an even more compact layout, suitable for confined spaces. The 1620 variant expands the existing range of four models and completes the compact P2 panel bender family, one of our most successful panel bender models,” Artuso told ISMR.
Suitable for kit or batch-one production, P2-1620 can bend sheet metal of up to 1600mm in length, while the maximum bending height is 203mm. It is designed to meet the needs of a constantly evolving market for high quality, zero waste and maximum versatility.
“ More than 90 % of the parts that our customers bend are no longer than 1600mm so, instead of increasing the range of application of our P1 panel bender, we decide to make a smaller P2 model. This was greatly appreciated by our customers. The P2-1620 has all the features and options available for the P2-2120 panel bender but with a smaller bending range,” outlined Nicola Artuso.
He pointed out that there are two fields of application in the P2-1620. The P2-1620 can bend material thicknesses of up to 3.2mm. However, reaching the maximum bending length also limits the material thickness range that can be bent. So, for example, when bending material of over 1000mm bending length, the P2-1620 can bend material thicknesses of up to 2.5mm.

A range of applications
“ With automatic bending and handling cycles, P2-1620 delivers an average of 17 bends per minute with no need for machine downtime or manual re-tooling. Its universal tools process the entire range of thicknesses and machinable materials. MAC3.0 technology, standard on all P2 panel benders, allows the machine to automatically adapt to variations in the mechanical characteristics of the sheetmetal being machined, ensuring precise and consistent bends over time,” Salvagnini continued.
The P2-1620 panel bender also offers an extended range of options such as CLA, RSU and DPM tools, significantly broadening its applications and making it suitable for a variety of industrial sectors such as HVAC, white goods( e. g. refrigerator doors) and electrical.
Nicola Artuso also highlighted the new panel bender’ s suitability for automation, in combination with technologies such as the P robot that is used on its P 2120 panel bender.

Productivity in focus
“ Sustainability has been a key element in the design of the new panel bender, with energy consumption very low( a maximum of four kilowatts per hour). The P2-1620 only uses the energy needed for the bend, which lowers costs for customers. Thanks to the combination of automatic bending cycles, reduced set-up times and optimised energy consumption, P2-1620 offers highly competitive bending costs compared to traditional press brakes and other panel benders. The cost per bend is much lower,” confirmed Artuso.
“ Our webinar on Tuesday 20 May is a unique opportunity to explore the potential of the P2-1620 and the entire P2 range, and to discover how this panel bender can help manufacturers to optimise their production processes, improve efficiency and reduce environmental impact,” concluded Nicola Artuso.
