Vacuum tube lifter with new control handle
The re-designed JumboFlex vacuum tube lifter from Schmalz is designed to move workpieces weighing up to 50kg. Operators, J. Schmalz GmbH told ISMR,“ can handle goods ergonomically and with a high cycle frequency.”
“ Simpler. More efficient. More ergonomic. The tried-and-tested JumboFlex has optimised handling processes thanks to smart adaptations. Its handle fits perfectly in the hand, regardless of its size. The new control handle is even better suited to different hand sizes, allowing small hands to grip just as safely and‘ fatiguefree’ as larger ones. The redesign makes the vacuum tube lifter intuitive to use and significantly reduces the training time for new skilled workers,” explained the materialhandling specialist.
“ The two operating buttons are also new, replacing the single-button control. They control the‘ up-and-down’ movement in opposite directions and are intuitive to use, allowing new employees to work productively
With new two-button operation, operators can control the up-and-down movement intuitively.
even faster and direct the tube lifter with precision. If required, loads can be brought to a standstill in a floating position at any height, enabling further process steps to be carried out on the workpiece being handled. For example, labels can be easily applied or workpieces checked. The JumboFlex therefore counteracts employee fatigue even more effectively than before,” it continued.
Using the double-speed gripper change, operators can handle different workpieces without interfering with handling processes.
The operator can slide the end effector into the holder. A tweezer handle for releasing the gripper enables quick changes and prevents accidental release.
“ If the new gripper is not properly engaged, employees receive a visual warning. A rotating mechanism, which is operated via a simple and intuitive slider, allows the workpiece being handled to be rotated 360 degrees or fixed in 90-degree increments,” added Schmalz.
When configuring the JumboFlex, users can choose between several variants and circuitry. For example, a swivelling function is available for the gripper which can also suck in the workpiece from the side. An optional display, which is controlled via a foil keypad, informs the specialist about the weight of the goods, for example in the‘ Weight Control’ version. This saves companies additional weighing, especially when picking items up in the dispatch area.
Family-owned Schmalz specialises in vacuum automation and ergonomic handling systems. Headquartered in Glatten in the Black Forest( Germany), Schmalz employs around 1,800 people at 31 locations worldwide. n

All-in-one machine vision solution
Machine vision is playing an increasingly important role in more and more intralogistics applications. Murrelektronik has developed an all-in-one solution that it presented this March at the LogiMAT exhibition. It showcased a new installation bundle specifically for single camera applications, the One-Cam-Connect. It is a plug-and-play solution to quickly build an inspection system with a single smart camera.
The One-Cam-Connect bundle consists of an industrial switch with built-in voltage control, paired with a power supply that can be plugged into any standard power outlet. It includes, said the manufacturer,“ the first 90-watt power supply for singlecamera applications with IP67 protection and industrial certification.” Using integrated mounting tabs, the new power supplies can be securely attached to the machine rack.
Murrelektronik’ s modular, manufacturerindependent, fully pluggable machine vision installation solutions are designed to bring signals, data and power into the immediate machine environment.
“ Through moving components and functions from the control cabinet to the field
and the connection of local, self-managed systems via one cable to a central server, costs can be reduced by 30 per cent across the entire process chain( from planning and design to assembly and installation). At the same time, the complexity of the parts to be procured is significantly reduced, while the clarity and flexibility of the installation concept is increased,” added Murrelektronik.
Existing systems can be quickly expanded with additional cameras using standardised components. This reduces electrical installation time and protects against installation errors. Users can connect up to four cameras to a hybrid switch that combines power, fuse and switch in a single unit. In addition, multiple switches can be daisy-chained to expand the network of cameras and other peripherals.
“ Four cameras can be installed, commissioned and networked with just two cables. Additional cameras or components can be added just as easily using the daisy-chain functionality. This not only pays off during installation but also enables fast and error-free system assembly, simplifies any required maintenance, reduces planning and documentation efforts, and increases system reliability,” concluded the company. n
