Collagen Synthesis
Anti-Tumor Effect and DNA Repair
Tripeptide-1 ( Copper Tripeptide-1 ) the human body , including skin . The properties described make this compound an excellent addition to cosmeceuticals and for several purposes in that regard .
Collagen Synthesis
As previously mentioned 38 , and as illustrated by the prior Clinical Study 39 , new collagen synthesized under the direction of Tripeptide-1 ( Copper Tripeptide-1 ) assumes its normal configuration rather than a disorganized scar . The bar graph below , taken from the Clinical Study , illustrates the ability of Youth Complex to improve the synthesis of Procollagen I in aged 55-year-old fibroblasts . 40 Using aged fibroblasts gave a stronger test of product , as well as the fact that all product was rinsed off the cells after a single application and was not re-applied throughout the study period .
These results and preceding facts have important implications for both post-procedural applications where scarring is known to occur and anti-aging applications in which normal collagen synthesis is impaired and declines . In the presence of Tripeptide-1 ( Copper Tripeptide-1 ), the likelihood of keloid scar formation is reduced , and scar surface area is decreased . 41 Collagen production with Tripeptide-1 ( Copper Tripeptide-1 ) has been superior to that in products containing Vitamin C or retinoic acid ( Vitamin A metabolite and active form ). 42
Anti-Tumor Effect and DNA Repair
Tripeptide-1 ( Copper Tripeptide-1 ) has a strong anti-tumor effect 43 on both primary tumor growth and metastases mediated by multiple possible mechanisms 44 -- including decorin 45 46 , apoptosis 47 , and biologic chelation of the potentially pro-oxidant metals iron 48 and copper 49 50 . It protects DNA from radiation damage during cancer treatments and photoaging . Radiated fibroblasts were restored to normal functioning after exposure to Tripeptide-1 ( Copper Tripeptide-1 ). Several tumor cell lines have been shown to die in the presence of this compound while normal cells continue to develop normally . Tripeptide-1 ( Copper Tripeptide-1 ) induces various forms of anti-cancer gene expression . 51 This preceding evidence illustrates that Tripeptide-1 ( Copper Tripeptide-1 ) may be used in topical products to enhance normal tissue repair and collagen deposition without fear of neoplastic transformation . This would be especially important for persons wishing to benefit from use of topical products but who are under skin cancer surveillance and / or are at risk for developing skin cancer .
DNA repair is not only important in lessening the risk of cellular transformation to cancer but also to slow the rate of aging . 52
