MORNING GLORY It is well known that the Ironman 4x4 Adventure Challenge WA is as much an endurance event that pushes the limits of the body and mind just as much as the car and that lack of sleep is to be expected. The start of SS11: Morning Glory was no different. Competitors arrived at camp early morning and agreed to go straight into SS11 Morning Glory, despite not sleeping the night before. A race around Harms lake with all competitors starting at the same time, it was Colm Arthur (car #15) who blew them away powering ahead towards the GPS point (furtherest point of the lake). TUESDAY,12 August 2014 Unfortunately though, a poor call meant he went left when his navi said to go right and it wasn‘t too long until he was bottomed out in the middle of lake - a 400+ metre recovery that took 12 hours and a loader from Southern Hills Station (thanks to Chris and Monica South) to get him out. The stand out performance was without a doubt Joe Vowles (car # 11) racing through the flying finish and getting his first stage win in three years with a time of 29.12 minutes, ahead of Barry Smethurst (car #01) in a time of 33:22 and seconds behind in third place was Dave Cameron (car #10) with a time of 33:26. stage winners JOE VOWLES GRAEME mCPHERSON #11 DNF time: 60 minutes IRONMAN 4X4 ADVENTURE CHALLENGE MAGAZINE PAGE: 17 | AUGUST 2014 IRONMAN 4X4 ADVENTURE CHALLENGE MAGAZINE PAGE: 17 | AUGUST 2014
