Statesville High School recently added
Horticulture and Animal Science courses
for students. A brand new state of the art
commercial greenhouse was built on campus
affording students hands-on learning activities
that can aid those who may have difficult times
understanding concepts in traditional math
or science classes such as photosynthesis
or the Krebs cycle. In the context of handson instruction the science becomes real for
them. The same can be said for the Animal
Science courses that teach feed efficiency
ratios, selective breeding and animal health
best practices for large and small animals;
true advanced math and genetics concepts
are conveyed in real world context, sparking
student interest.

I encourage you to drop by Statesville
High School and view the new greenhouse
located in the back of the school. You too will
be excited about one of the many student
learning opportunities that Career and Technical
Education has to offer students.
