Middle School STEM Academies
In order to inspire and challenge our 21st Century Learners , ISS Career and Technical Education has launched STEM ( Science , Technology , Engineering , and Math ) Academies at all 9 Iredell-Statesville Middle Schools . The STEM classes are an ambitious approach to student learning , bringing together the educational demands of high academic standards and accountability , with hands on problembased learning activities for students , highlighting key skills needed for success in today ’ s technology driven world .
Career and Technical STEM teachers and school principals are developing partnerships with local businesses to ensure that student experiences are relevant to those occurring in today ’ s workplace . Each student ’ s academic experience will be enhanced through hands-on use of technology , real-life exposures to careers , and career planning that will lead them to a viable plan for post-secondary education and / or a career . The goal is to energize students by teaching them to take the lead in determining their future in STEM careers . STEM project-based learning for students involves academics such as challenging hands-on science , engineering projects and computer coding , technology applications and advanced mathematics , just to name a few . New Agricultural Education Program at Statesville High School
Agricultural Education is no longer just about plows and cows . Today ’ s agriculture classes allow students to practice real applications in advanced math , science and technology . These are among the many reasons why urban area schools are excited about offering Agriculture Education . It ’ s not because of the great jobs awaiting students on farms , rather it ’ s because of the many new career opportunities in agriculture , much of which is STEM ( Science , Technology , Engineering and Mathematics ) focused .
