NIHS & SIHS Open Performing Arts Centers

“ You know me as Mr . Mac ,” said the young man in the bow tie on stage , right before the crowd exploded into applause .
On Thursday , March 8th , the doors were finally opened into the new Performing Arts Center at North Iredell High School and the community had gathered for the ribbon cutting . Amos McCandless , theater teacher at North High , was on stage with Elaine Smith , chorus teacher and Charlie Brantley , band director . Other local elected officials shared the spotlight , but it really was all about the fine arts students and their teachers .
“ Our students are actors , musicians , singers and so much more ,” continued Mr . McCandless . “ Within our departments we have programmers , directors , project managers , carpenters , event organizers ,
advertisers , social media influencers , and designers . Our programs work to help students find their voice , build their self-confidence and be heard within their community .” As the speeches concluded and the celebratory ribbon was cut , proud students led the adults in the crowd on tours of their new space .
