Dr. William Kutteh
Statesville High School graduated three
brothers from 1969 to 1973, each of whom
have left their mark locally, nationally and
internationally. Costi (1969), William (1971)
and Robert (1973) Kutteh each credit their
success to their parents or a mentor that
believed in them.
“You must learn how to learn,” according
to Dr. Willliam Kutteh, clinical professor of
Reproductive Endocrinology at Vanderbilt
University School of Medicine in Nashville.
“For some people, the important things
about education are learned early. I took a
circuitous route to reach the spot where I am
now, and I credit four mentors that believed
in me. They are the reason that I am doing
what I am doing.” And…what is he doing?
His biography is a tome, reflecting years of
study. With an undergraduate degree from
Wake Forest University and postgraduate
work in Immunology at Duke University, Dr.
Kutteh received his Ph.D. from the University
of Alabama at Birmingham in Molecular Cell
Biology. He completed his medical school
training at Wake Forest University School of

Medicine and his residency at the University
of Alabama at Birmingham. A fellowship
followed with a faculty appointment in
Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility at
the University of Texas Southwestern Medical
Center in Dallas. Dr. Kutteh is well published
in both Reproductive Endocrinology and in
Immunology and has focused his career on
investigation of early pregnancy failure. In
addition to publishing and lecturing on this topic
extensively, Dr. Kutteh has a clinical practice
at Fertility Associates of Memphis and runs
an immunological laboratory. He also directs
the Center for the Study of Recurrent Early
Pregnancy Loss and evaluates couples with
this condition from all over the country. Not too

Arguably one of the most recognizable
figures in Statesville is eldest brother, Costi
Kutteh. Preferring walking to driving, Costi is
well known by the residents of this community
because of his open and honest nature.
“Statesville is my favorite city,” acknowledges
Costi, who has served the City of Statesville on
