Elementary, and East Middle. “I always enjoyed
math,” Robby said. “I grew up watching my Dad
make detailed drawings and then turning his ideas
into a completed project. My Dad was hesitant to
consider this path for me since his recollections of
manufacturing was an old-style facility - dark and dirty.
Advanced manufacturing is highly technical, clean and
safe and turn out some pretty awesome products!”
In 2007, Robby’s career took yet another turn. A new
medical manufacturing company, Structure Medical in
Mooresville hired him to fill a CNC (computer numerical
control) machinist position. This position was in their
4-Axis department that prepares all materials for further
processing. After expanding his machining knowledge,
he was able to work on more complex products, creating
finish medical implants. Robby is now the Milling
Department Manager responsible for 45 employees and
shop production output.
“I have seen Structure grow from a startup with two
facilities to a dynamic growing company of five facilities
across 3 states with over 250 employees. I have had
a direct daily impact on 45 employees and 54 state-of-
the-art CNC milling machines.
“This career path has allowed me to move forward
with an ever-growing manufacturing industry that is
growing in size as well as technology. The decision
I made to go into manufacturing was the door that
opened so many opportunities for me. It has allowed
me to be financially stable and support my wife and
children.”
