RISING STARS
Sylvia Nantier
Product / program manager Amazon Australia
A fter working in investment banking in New York City , Sylvia Nantier decided to move to Australia , “ start from scratch ” and work in marketing .
The risk paid off , as that role led to further opportunities at Uber , and now Amazon , where she is a program / product manager in the selection team and responsible for building the company ’ s retail selection offering in Australia .
Applying the skills she learned on Wall Street to e-commerce , Sylvia has improved the way Amazon Australia interacts with thousands of suppliers and vendors . She has done so by increasing the speed of onboarding selection items , improving forecasting and escalation mechanisms , and reducing defects and delays . This has helped generate revenue and become the prototype for other countries .
Described as a “ jack of all trades ,” it ’ s no surprise she was named Amazon Australia ’ s ‘ Rookie of the Year ’ less than nine months after joining the company .
“ I ’ ve always loved the tangibility of retail and having an impact on the everyday lives of customers . My first job – if you don ’ t count working the cash register for my dad ’ s graphic novel booth at comic book conventions when I was a kid – was in a retail store on 5th Avenue in Manhattan ,” Sylvia said .
“ I loved learning how they kept the lights on to serve high-volume foot traffic . This has carried into my current career at Amazon , where I promote innovative solutions for customers on a large scale .
“ In five years , I hope to travel more frequently for work , while expanding scope by defining the mission and leading the vision for a larger audience .”
Tim Snape
Marketing director Heaps Normal
I t ’ s hard to comprehend just how quickly consumer perceptions of zero-alcohol beer have changed . From a category that was overlooked , it has now become a widely popular choice , and Tim Snape has played no small role in this turnaround .
As marketing director at Heaps Normal , Tim is behind the brand ’ s efforts to change Aussie drinking culture . Over the past 18 months , he has overseen two major product launches , supported the company ’ s B Corp certification process and steered its engagement of key opinion leaders in music and culture . His background in the arts – he was previously head of digital marketing at the Sydney Opera House – has proven to be a key asset on this front .
He has been described as a rare marketer who not only intuitively understands his audience , but also has deep expertise in the tactics and the channels that will connect them with the right message . Tim is also regarded for his ability to move the needle on a call to action or a campaign .
“ I ’ m passionate about amplifying the voice and impact of brands that I love . Whether it ’ s as a marketer , a digital specialist or something else I haven ’ t tried yet – my goal is to leverage my expertise to support causes , missions and businesses that I care about ,” he said .
Outside of his role at Heaps Normal , Tim is a youth mentor for Headspace and previously served as a board observer at Carriageworks .
