EDGE OF PARADISE is a Hard Rock/Metal band fronted by MARGARITA MONET. In between some shows in
their local area and getting ready to head to Texas, Margarita agreed to chat with me a bit to fill you in on
some of what is going on with Edge of Paradise.
CeeJ: I feel that Edge of Paradise has this Hard Rock/Metal sound and you do all that so well. Then I heard
“GHOST”...WOW! Your voice has some phenomenal levels. Did you know that you had all that, or did you
realize it as you went along with the band?
Margarita: Thank you very much! I definitely realized it along the way, to tell you the truth, I kind of jumped
head-first into this band and had to figure out what to do with my voice while we were recording our debut
CD “Mask”. It's not that I never sang before--I was in musical theater in high school, but it doesn't really
compare. I would say I really started to find my voice when we wrote “In A Dream”…all the attention was on
the song. And when you have a melody form that feels right--even if it seems out of reach to sing--I just had
to figure out how to do it. I think that song really allowed and sort of pushed me to expand my voice, and
from then on, it just felt natural to sing the way I do now. It's exciting to see what I can do with each new
song.
CeeJ: If you would, tell me what “The Edge of Paradise” means?
Margarita: The name really refers to a state of being--meaning we are always on the edge of paradise--but
it remains just out of reach. It may be visible at times; but the logic to actually obtain paradise is lost.
CeeJ: There are so many bands out there right now trying to get to the top. I have been watching how hard
you work at what you do. What makes YOU different?
Margarita: I guess you have to listen to find out. We do have the understanding that when you get to the top
of one hill, you are really just at the bottom of another mountain--and so on it goes. We work very hard to
create music that is unique to us. This is our journey, we bring our emotions and experiences to the table
and let them write the music.
CeeJ: Tell me a little about your band members. The personal things you learn being with each other on the
road. We all have personalities. Who is the prankster, the serious one, the geek? I always enjoy getting to
know a little about the people who are bringing us the great music.
Margarita: No geeks in this band…or all geeks, depending on how you look at it I suppose. I'm happy to
report that we all get along really well. We have had many line-ups as we previously mentioned; and when
you travel that’s when you really find out if you get along or not. I mean, we drove all the way to Philadelphia
from LA to start our east coast run last November--only stopping to eat and get gas! That was a good test.
I’ll give you a little insight into the members: Nick is pretty handy and actually much smarter than he looks,
John is a sharp dresser and very polite, Dave likes to break things--it is really quite disturbing. I guess I hold
it all together and keep them in line. About the prankster…check out our ALS “Ice Bucket Challenge” video
and you will get an idea--watch at your own risk though! https://youtu.be/kBItSOF0GgQ
