personally, JP goes to hear original material. However, a Hard Rock/Metal band doing a song like “Folsom Prison Blues” I think is not so much a cover, as it is a much needed version of a classic tune, and I simply said, “I think you should play it.” Not only did they play it, they slayed it! RedEcho breathed new life into the song with MICHAEL FORTIN’S (lead guitar) blistering guitar, CHAD DAULTON’S (bass) thumping bass lines, DYLAN “DIESEL” CECIL (drums) pounding the skins and the strong vocals of the aforementioned Cory Carter. If recorded and released in this version, I feel like this could very well shoot up the charts into a top ten hit. After “Folsom Prison Blues”, it was slowed down for the only time in the evening with a very meaningful ballad “Dear Soldier”-dedicated to Cory’s grandfather--a tale that revolves around a letter asking the soldier to come back home to his family. Quickly kicking it back up, the RedEcho boys laid into what they deem to be their prized possession of tunes, “Living the Life”; which ultimately is what all bands want is to live--the life of true rock stars. With the hard-driving, straight-in-your face song “Strip” (yes, it’s about a stripper), there is little doubt that the musicianship is top notch. Cory’s deep vocals seem to get stronger as the night goes on, Michael’s blazing guitar solos gaining even more traction, Chad and Diesel keeping the rapid fire pace--with every head in the joint banging. With the set coming to an unfortunate end, it was closed with two tunes from their current self-titled EP. The first of those songs was “Red”, which can only be described as METALLICA meets MEGADETH meets something like you’ve never heard before. The final number of the evening was “Control”…and as the title of the tune suggests, they were in control of the 45 minutes from start to finish. As the set was concluding, I was convinced of several things: RedEcho is a band that will be heard from as they embark on their tour--and that if you are sharing the stage with them, you had better bring your absolute best. If you do not, you will be left behind and RedEcho will rule the stage and night. RedEcho music is available on iTunes.
