Market Analysis
Tourism is one of the most important
sectors of the Armenian economy, and is
viewed by the Government as a priority for
economic development. The main vision of
its development was stated in the “2014-
2025 Strategic Development Plan of the
Republic of Armenia”.
The accommodation and public catering
services proportion of the sector was
about 1.3% of GDP in 2016, amounting to
66.2 billion AMD. About 622 thousand
tourists arrived in the first half of 2017 –
24% more than for the same period in
2016.
According to official statistics, 1.26
million tourists arrived to the Republic of
Armenia in 2016, an increase of 5.7% from
2015.
Majority of tourists arriving in Armenia
for the last several years have come from
three main countries: Russia (21.7%), Iran
(17%), and USA (9.6%).
