At the same time, domestic tourism is
also growing in Armenia. According to the
National Statistical Service of Armenia,
the number of domestic tourists
(Residents of RA) increased by 20.1% in
2017 (January-May) compared to the
same period of the previous year. In total,
90,634 people travelled domestically
from January to May of 2017. People
travel
domestically
for
different
purposes. As the above graphics shows, in
Armenia the number of entertainment,
cultural, and leisure services are
increasing because the main purpose for
domestic tourism is leisure and
entertainment.
Furthermore, over the past five years,
the number of tourists arriving in Armenia
has increased by an average of 11% every
year, and about 14% of tourists prefer
using hotel facilities.
At the same time, the number of
tourists using hotel facilities also
increased by about 6.5% annually. In
2016, the number of hotels/resorts in the
Republic of Armenia was 550.
