supermarkets because they are friends, or can relate to the farmers that make the food. So, if supermarkets would use local food they could develop a trust with their customers. Another reason that local food is good for supermarkets is because they can get the food from close by and they don ' t have to pay shipping from South America or some place that they have to use an airplane to bring it to the market, they just need to drive it over from a couple miles away. In my local market, they have products called Jersey Fresh. That means all of the produce with that label are grown right here in NJ!
About Jersey Fresh Jersey Fresh is an advertising, promotional and quality grading program launched in 1984 to help farmers inform consumers about the availability and variety of fruits and vegetables grown in New Jersey. Through the many years of the program, consumers ' awareness has increased, and it has become the benchmark for other states to initiate their own stategrown agricultural marketing programs. The New Jersey Department of Agriculture has continually worked to bring Jersey Fresh to all who want it, by working with restaurants, schools, colleges, big box stores, local communities, hotels, hospitals and more. The program has evolved over time with the Jersey Fresh logo getting a new look in 2006.
