The bristles along the edges of baleen were used to make brooms and brushes. Imagine brushing your hair with a part of a whale! Yuck!

Whales were especially killed for their meat. They were said to taste very good, and very sweet.
** DID YOU KNOW?** SOME WHALE OILS WERE WORTH THEIR WEIGHT IN GOLD.
Ø Whaling Today
Presently, whalers use radars, and even helicopters to seek out whales. The whale is harpooned and tagged, and then a whaling vessel as large as an aircraft carrier, picks up the next whale, while the other goes ahead and searches for the next whale.
o Whaling today is mainly conducted by Japan( who claim they whale for“ scientific” purposes) and Norway. It is impossible to know if Japan actually sends out whalers, as it is not possible to know whether they are telling the truth or not. However, most scientists find their reasons skeptical, and they don’ t believe it. Eskimos are actually allowed to whale because it is one of their essential food sources and they use every bit of the whale because they need it, not because they want it. However, indigenous groups, like the Eskimos, have to submit an application that states their population size and approximately how many whales are killed to provide for the people per year. Then a quota is set for them by the IWC.( Kate Wilson, from the IWC gave me this information.)
Some whales were more popular than others. The most popular whales were:
