What is the Red List?
When a species is in a severe condition it goes on the Red List. The Red List is a list that places species in various degrees of endangerment according to their population surviving and threats to their survival. There are 3 categories in which a species can be placed in. They are Vulnerable, Endangered, and Critically Endangered. To be Vulnerable on the list means If a species reproduces quickly, they look at the time frame of 10 years. If 30 % of the population declines within 10 years it is in the category of Vulnerable. If the population decreases 50 % within 10 years it qualifies as Endangered Category. If it declines 70 % over 10 years then it is known as Critically Endangered. Species on the Red List of Threatened Species are in serious trouble. Overall at least 20,200 species are threatened.
