International Conference on the Ecology and Management of Alien Plant Invasions
The 17th International Conference on the Ecology and Management of Alien Plant Invasions (EMAPI 25) will be held at Lincoln University, New Zealand between the 2nd and 5th September 2025. EMAPi is the premier international conference on plant invasions. The EMAPi Conferences have a long history and have been held at different locations around the world approximately every two years since 1992. Countries that have hosted EMAPi conferences include UK, Czech Republic, USA, Germany, Italy, Poland, Australia, South Africa, Hungary, Brazil, Portugal and Chile.
This is the first time an EMAPi conference has been held in New Zealand, and this represents a rare opportunity to engage with leading global and national research in the management of invasive plants. Lincoln University Te Whare Wānaka o Aoraki was founded in 1878 and is the oldest agricultural teaching institution in the Southern Hemisphere.
Its purpose is to facilitate excellent research and education to grow the knowledge of students and help shape a world that benefits from a greater understanding of the relationships between land, food and ecosystems.
Our conference theme “From Ecology to Action: Innovative Solutions for Plant Invasion Management” captures the need for the science of plant invasions to deliver solutions. New Zealand is an ideal setting to illustrate the way forward in terms of invasive plant management through biological control, community initiatives, and long-term national programmes. The conference has brought together six plenary speakers from around the world to cover topics that include biological control, ecosystem impacts and the invasion of wilding conifers. The programme is being put together now but you can find out more and register for the conference here. Our conference will be the stimulus for a memorable networking event that will bring together leading researchers and practitioners to forge new insights into alien plant management.
