The MIREN Research Network
MIREN is a global collaborative research group that aims to understand the effects of global change on species distribution and biodiversity in mountain areas. A core part of MIREN is the road survey, which consists of a standardized protocol to quantify global and regional patterns of native and non-native species distributions and the shifts caused by the interactive effects of climate change and human disturbance. Globally, over 20 mountain regions are now using the MIREN protocol to monitor changes in mountain biodiversity and the number of regions participating is continuously growing. MIREN is also implementing other protocols and experiments at global and regional scales including the MIREN trail survey, plant trait variation along elevation gradients and microclimate monitoring, together with the global SoilTemp microclimate network.
