Here are a few ideas: Focus on the good. It’s easy to take the good times for granted. Try to identify positive things that have happened to you and for which you are grateful. Write them down. Acknowledging all of the good in your life can be a big step towards being happy. And, the list is likely to be longer than you first thought. Practice being positive. Write something positive about yourself, and post it in a prominent place where you can be reminded throughout the day that you are enough, worthy, capable, etc. Positive thinking helps us be more productive, healthier and happier. People want to be around others who are positive. Recognize that happiness doesn’t always mean life altering moments. Happiness can be something as simple as taking joy in a beautiful sunset, a rainbow after a summer storm, cuddles from a pet, a coworker bringing doughnuts. In others words, happiness can be a million small things that when reflected upon give us a few minutes of joy. Schedule time for things that bring you joy. Making time to do things you enjoy (fishing, reading, boating, hiking for example), can make you feel happier in your day to day life. Donate time, energy or financial resources to a cause you believe in. Supporting others can bring a sense of purpose and joy. Live in the moment. Set your worries aside and enjoy the moment. You can’t be truly happy if you’re constantly worrying or only focusing on the better that might come in the next moment. Let now be your priority. Keep your friends close and your enemies far away. Surround yourself with people who raise you up, rather than tear you down. Feeling good about yourself goes hand in hand with happiness. Spending time with others who make you feel positive is a key step. Reconnect with relatives and friends; stroll down memory lane together. Celebrate you. The more you praise and celebrate your life, the more in your life there is to celebrate. A positive mental attitude can go a long way in making life seem brighter. Smile. Smile to yourself and to strangers you meet. Something as simple as your smile could be the reason someone else feels happy today. This August, make the choice to be happy. Keep a positive mental attitude and make your happiness a priority. You’ll feel better, live better and be happier than you expected. If you find that you are struggling with your mental health and overcome by feelings that are keeping your happiness at bay Adanta is here to help. Maintaining Independence Through Therapy!
