Zane Paris has been employed at Robertson Pools & Spas since the beginning of the summer. He said that Somerset residents have been coming in with questions about aboveground and in-ground pool installation. “There aren’t any pools available for immediate installation,” Paris said. “We have been taking names and putting them in a queue, but they will have to wait at least three or four months, and we are already selling pools for next summer,” he said. While COVID-19 restrictions have made traveling a little harder, it has not stopped people from making RV purchases. Brian Loudermilk, Sales Manager at Lee’s RV Center, said, “We have seen a large increase in RV sales compared to last year.” “It’s been a mixed bag of people who have never been into camping or RVing before and people looking to upgrade,” Loudermilk said. “Many of our customers don’t want to vacation or want to stay closer to home, and that’s when they come into our showroom.” Loudermilk said that pull trailers are selling better than fifth wheels, but their entire inventory is listed in RV Trader and online at LeeRVCenter.com. Ryan Brown is the Sales Manager at Bluegrass International in Georgetown, where most of their RV inventory is located. “People have been calling in and doing research online,” Brown added, “Most buyers are pretty savvy, and they already know what they are looking for with high-end purchases like RVs.” Brown said that his customer’s plans vary, too. “Some are brand-new to the RV lifestyle and are planning vacations, while some are going to use them to pull trailers in the racing industry, for example,” he said. “Still others are retiring or selling their businesses and want to travel the country in style.” One thing remains certain. With typical summer plans canceled this year, many families are making significant investments, which means big sales for these local businesses. All of these stores are adhering to social distancing guidelines and mask restrictions in order to keep their employees and customers safe. AUGUST 2020 In Touch with Southern Kentucky • 27
