Vacationing Close to Home
With typical summer outings scrapped,
people are turning to RVs, pools
BY RAY HUNTER
With summer in
full swing and
the coronavirus
pandemic persisting,
consumers across
Kentucky are reinventing the
vacation experience.
Some are trying to bring the resort
atmosphere to their homes with
the addition of pools and spas.
Others have purchased recreational
vehicles, or RVs, and are taking
their homes on the road.
Folks looking to invest money
into their backyards by installing
swimming pools will have to wait
due to manufacturing shortages,
according to Morgan Singleton at
Outdoor Oasis.
“Our distributor has been out of
stock of aboveground pools since
the end of May and won’t be able to
fill orders until at least September,”
Singleton said.
She suspects that shutdowns and
restrictions due to the COVID-19
pandemic in states like New York
and California, where the pools
are fabricated, are to blame for the
shortage of available stock.
“Even parts like gaskets and
O-rings are really hard to get right
now,” she added, “Orders for pool
liners normally take 72 hours, but
now people are waiting for a month
or two to get them.”
Singleton said she has worked for
the family business every summer
for the past five years and has never
witnessed anything like this.
