Children ’ s Healing Garden Update

After breaking ground in spring 2018 , construction on the Children ’ s Healing Garden has progressed in a timely fashion . We are expecting a completion date of fall 2018 and are excited to open the Garden up to several hundred children in the community .
The Garden will provide an interactive space for grieving and seriously ill children to find solace through nature . This unique resource will be available for not only Pathways clients and patients but the community at large .
We look forward to sharing more updates in the coming months .

Volunteer Spotlight : Jim Ling

Volunteers are at the heart of Pathways , performing numerous vital tasks , including companionship , clerical work , caregiver relief and much more . Within the volunteer team is the Veterans Task Force , comprised of several dedicated U . S . military veterans who create a special bond with Pathways ’ veteran patients . One of these veteran volunteers is Jim Ling .
Jim has volunteered with Pathways for more than six years and serves on the Veterans Recognition Committee , which visits veteran patients and honors their dedication to our country .
As a veteran himself , Jim knows just what it is like to be in a warzone . He grew up in Shang Hai and was 15 when World War II ended . At that time , he met many soldiers who were in Shang Hai , which gave him a special bond with veterans from an early age . This impactful time in his life inspired Jim to write a book documenting his experiences called Shang Hai Occupied , published in November 2016 .
Now , as a companion for hospice patients and member of the Veterans Task Force , he has the opportunity to meet with many incredible individuals with their own unique pasts .
“ Everybody has a different story to tell ,” said Jim . “ After a veteran recognition presentation , I often wish I had known this person earlier .” He encourages the people he meets to record moments from their own lives so others will know about the important contributions they have made .
Thank you , Jim , for your service – to our country and to our community !
