Work Diary

Students who are able to identify work experience in their employment applications are at an advantage when applying for jobs . It is also essential to be able to communicate to employers what you have learned from the work experience .
Unfortunately , many students do not record their work experience , so when they begin to make applications , it can be difficult to remember specific details and so the impact of the work experience is forgotten , and its learning potential lost .
By keeping a work diary , you will be able to recall this information more easily , enabling you to make more effective applications .
It is recommended that you record your experiences on a regular basis , as they occur , rather than complete work diaries retrospectively .
Completing the Work Diary will enable you to :
• Analyse your experience of the workplace and how you work within the organisation .
• Monitor the progress of your action plan and skills development .
• Build up evidence of learning and skills / knowledge you have gained .
For each major task you complete , it is recommended that you complete a Work Diary sheet .
You may find the Work Diary template useful , although you could use an alternative format , which suits your work environment and personal learning style .
Don ’ t forget to complete your work diary
