Settlement Maintenance Intern

Job Summary

The Settlement Maintenance Intern will support the daily maintenance, care, and upkeep of The Settlement and community park areas. This hands-on internship provides experience in groundskeeping, facility care, landscaping, and general maintenance tasks within a Tribal community setting. The intern will work closely with the Maintenance Supervisor to learn proper equipment use, safe operating procedures, and effective landscaping and grounds maintenance techniques.
This role is ideal for individuals interested in learning practical maintenance skills, outdoor work, and facility operations while contributing positively to the upkeep of community spaces.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Maintain The Settlement grounds and community park, including cleaning debris, de-weeding, fertilizing, and general landscaping
• Perform general maintenance, repair, and upkeep of grounds equipment, structures, and facilities
• Clean and maintain interior areas of buildings, including vacuuming, sweeping, mopping, carpet cleaning, and power washing
• Learn proper operational use of tools, equipment, and landscaping techniques
• Provide general support to the Maintenance Supervisor as needed
• Assist with seasonal tasks such as mulching, trimming, raking, or snow-related duties( as applicable)
• Follow safety procedures and proper handling of maintenance supplies and equipment
• Perform other duties as assigned

Essential Skills and Qualifications

• Willingness to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
• Ability to perform physical tasks such as bending, lifting, carrying, and standing for extended periods
• Interest in facility maintenance, landscaping, or groundskeeping
• Ability to learn and operate grounds maintenance tools and equipment
• Strong work ethic, dependability, and willingness to follow direction
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
