Environmental Intern – Outreach and Media

Job Summary

The Environmental Intern – Outreach and Media supports the Environmental Department by enhancing community engagement, educational outreach, and public awareness of environmental initiatives. This intern will help strengthen the community’ s connection to environmental stewardship through social media content creation, educational outreach materials, and culturally relevant learning tools.
The position includes accompanying field teams to gather photos, videos, stories, and educational information for outreach purposes. Fieldwork exposure will help the intern develop accurate and engaging content related to invasive species management, water quality monitoring, habitat restoration, and other Environmental Department projects. Interns will work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions and should be prepared for full field days when needed.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Develop social media posts, graphics, captions, and visual content that highlight environmental projects and initiatives
• Assist in creating outreach materials such as flyers, educational handouts, and digital media
• Accompany field teams to document environmental projects through photos, videos, and on site observations
• Help create culturally-relevant field guides and educational tools for Tribal properties
• Support environmental storytelling by gathering quotes, field notes, and project information
• Assist with community engagement activities, events, and educational presentations
• Maintain an organized archive of media assets and project documentation
• Perform other related outreach and field support tasks as assigned

Essential Skills and Qualifications

• Ability to maintain a positive attitude and work effectively with staff and community members
• Reliability in showing up prepared and on time for scheduled field days
• Comfort working outdoors in varying weather conditions
• Strong interest in communications, environmental outreach, media production, or cultural education
• Basic writing and storytelling ability
• Willingness to learn environmental concepts and communicate them clearly to others
• Ability to follow safety procedures and field guidelines
