historical and above all in terms of geopolitical and geostrategic . This strip of land , has always been the arena of diplomatic , cultural confrontations , aggressions of various powers and wars continued until today .
One of the etymologies of the word Balkan , definition from Turkish in Albanian means Honey Ball-and-blood Kan . But there are different meanings for the origin of the word “ Balkan '' like : Mountain ranges that separates Romania from Bulgaria . But the term Balkan finally begin to be used in the XIX century and researchers refer to this geographic area as '' Ballkanizem '' to describe countries that were emerging from the Ottoman Empire .
'' Balkanization ” - Researchers of international relations , analysts , chroniclers of the time and authors that had interest have study this “ Hartland ” and they qualify in the analysis of their work and observations as a region of disintegrating , confrontationality , unstable and always in crisis . Balkan today has changed but it is not integrated , and its volatility is so pronounced that can easily catapult into a new war . Well , the years have changed , but the forms and the ways remain with the same goals , to dominate and control .
The interest from traditional and emerging powers towards Balkan has increased . This interest is expressed in various forms of steadiness . Large countries like the Russian Federation , Turkey , the US and the EU are focused to be directly and deeply involved in Balkan . In an attempt to return in the World Stage powerfuly the Russian Federation is imposing its influence in political , diplomatic and military situation in the Balkan . Influence which is consideratet by Russia as the right ' landmark ' in the protection of Orthodox Brotherhood .
The person charged from the ' Independent ' in Balkan and also the author of a series of books , Marcus Tanner says : ' If Russia looks set to return into the Balkan , is because it is not used to be left out . Russia has seen for centuries Balkan as a natural sphere of influence , at least since the reign of Peter the Great that Montenegro took in his defense .
