Turkey has its cultural ties and economic interests in the Balkan , but currently lacks the resources and military power to compete with Russia and the West . One of Turkey ' s strategic objectives is to maintain influence in the Black Sea . Historically , Ankara has achieved this by being anchored on Danub . This objective requires management of relations with other Balkan countries bordering the Black Sea 10 .
Turkey has extended the influence of sympathy for Kosovo , Albania , Macedonia , Sandzak ( Serbia ). This influence has deep roots in the past of these people , who significantly acknowledge the general influence of the Turkey in their countries . In the recent years , Turkey is also trying to approach Bosnia-Herzegovina , which Ankara aims to increase its influence through cultural and historical ties . Bosnia and Herzegovina as a state has its own special features and the way this state governs , makes it look fragile , unsustainable in long term and that ’ s why there is a more noted Turk concentration in this country . In the event of any re-configuration or any eventual change of state borders of Bosnia and Herzegovina , Turkey wants to be a party to any agreement that would be taken .
In fact , Turkish officials claim that Turkey has invested $ 1.1 billion in Bosnia , since 1995 - a large amount of money for a country ' s GDP is 18 billion dollars 11 .
Turkey can not reach the level of financial investment of the great powers such as America , EU and Russia that have in the Balkan , even though Turkey has many quadrupled investments in the region . But , as a " keeper " of the Black Sea and as a member of NATO , Turkey plays an important role in Bulgaria ' s and Romania ' s efforts to enhance cooperation in the field of protection , in response to the crisis in Ukraine . Likewise , Turkey has a role in the fight taking place in Syria . The biggest base of NATO is in Turkey . This base is located on the borders Syria . Turkey is ' rocky mountain ' in a way that the EU keeps away the fireplace called Syria . Turkey is determined to build the pipeline '' Turkish Stream " and if is builted , will undoubtedly strengthen Turkey . Ankara would play a central role in its construction , and will use that role to improve its relations with the
