The Wirtgen Group has a trade show premiere lined up for MINExpo 2024 with its new cutting drum expanding its range of applications for surface miners in hard rock and stone .
Wirtgen Surface Miners and Cross Application Miners are deployed around the world in openpit mining operations and on infrastructure projects . Cutting drums are the core element of the machines .
The new cutting drum , Wirtgen says , enables the cost-efficient extraction of resources with uniaxial compressive strengths of over 100 MPa . It is equipped with HT14 toolholders and features a redesigned cutting geometry . The company explained : “ The field-proven and established central-drum concept , which ensures optimum utilisation of the machine weight , and the direct belt drive that guarantees the transfer of high usable power to the cutting drum , also contribute to the ability of Surface Miners to profitably extract even very hard rocks and minerals with uniaxial compressive strengths of 100 MPa and more – for instance limestone , gypsum or anhydrite .”

Mining Motor , the ecoVert ® VFM41-1200 . This 1,200 kW , integrated variable frequency drive ( VFD ) motor is tailored for underground mining applications on armoured face conveyors ( AFCs ) and beam stage loaders ( BSLs ), high production plow systems and even mine infrastructure conveyors , ventilation fans and pumps within longwall operations . It features a space-saving , explosion-proof design , total speed and torque control from zero speed in both directions to start fully loaded chains or belts , the company says .
The PFHD line pan for AFCs is designed for demanding longwall applications and represents the most robust and reliable HBT line pan available on the market , according to the company . HBT ’ s legacy of designing and manufacturing mining equipment has enabled it to produce superior line pan that lasts up to two times longer than the PF5 or PF6 pans . Featuring a heavy-duty profile , reduced overall height and wear resistant properties , the PFHD delivers the

Pempek Systems will , meanwhile , highlight its Mine Eye™ perception technology , which uses sensor fusion to map the operating environment and detect objects . Couple this with Pempek OBP PLUS technology and the result is an out-of-thebox autonomous management solution for mobile and mining vehicles to prevent collisions with personnel , infrastructure and other moving vehicles .
Also featured on the booth will be the roof support control PMC-R 2.0 system , offering automated control for longwall roof support applications .
