A D J U S T TO C H A N G E . ! ! Change is hard. It could possibly be the hardest thing we have in our lives. It’s an all-encompassing shift in our reality, for better or for worse. At a certain age, it became clear to me that I needed new goals. Rather than abandoning my Big 3, however, I’ve spent the last decade and a half carrying them around with me. They’re reminders of who I was, what I wanted, where I was going, and how big I allowed my dreams to be. ! ! Find your Big 3. Or 1. Or 100. Or infinity. With failure, or a change of mind, we must begin our adjustment. ! ! My first meeting as Aleph Godol of Palisades AZA #2536 was, as any sane person could have assessed, a failure. I was terrified and embarrassed. I couldn’t hold the room together for the life of me. I wanted to do so much, and I felt like I deserved the world. I didn’t. Winning a position does not, by any means, automatically define what someone can do, nor does it define the respect that someone should expect. The same exact thing goes for losing for a position. If you wanted to do something, do it. If you feel like you should receive more respect than you’re getting, earn it. Time in BBYO is far too short to prevent you from leaving the mark you initially wanted to make. If an election didn’t work out, what’s done is done. Just don’t let go of who you were when you ran then. ! ! If you want to change the world, change it.! ! ! !
