Scholarships of the Taiwan Ministry of Education ( MOE ) are funded as an incentive to attract outstanding students who find themselves in need of funding to fulfill their dreams of studying abroad . Two major scholarship programs are “ MOE Taiwan Scholarship ”, which is awarded to degree program students and “ MOE Huayu Enrichment Scholarship ” which is for students in Mandarin training . Scholarship students are able to choose their studies from more than 160 universities / colleges , 40 plus Mandarin training centers and about 200 programs exclusively taught in English . Numbers of applicants for both scholarships vary from year to year . In the 2016-2017 academic year , the acceptance rate for Taiwan Scholarship is 50 % and it is 54 % for Huayu Enrichment Scholarship . A total of twenty-six candidates were selected by the Education Division of TECO in Houston for both scholarships . Ten students attended the scholarship recipient orientation held in Houston .
Lucas , a student of the University of Houston who visited the 2015 Taiwan Education Fair US chose to study in Taiwan instead of a scholarship opportunity provided to him by other country . Now he is enjoying his Mandarin Chinese learning experience in Taiwan with the Huayu Enrichment Scholarship .

Dustin of Oklahoma , a 2014 Huayu Enrichment Scholarship recipient , recently contacted our office expressing his fondness of Taiwan after studying there . He stated his wish to apply for a degree program study that will allow him more time in Taiwan .
When initiating the program , the Taiwan MOE ’ s aim was to recruit as many foreign students to come to Taiwan as possible with the beliefs that a great education can lead to a great future . There is no doubt that STUDY IN TAIWAN provides a life changing opportunity to many who are now in love with this beautiful island .
Outstanding American students who are 18 years or older with a high school diploma from the following states , Arkansas , Colorado , Kansas , Louisiana , Mississippi , Missouri , Oklahoma and Texas , are welcome to apply for the scholarships .
