Pasostar ando Prastape – Breaking into a Gallop, Terraforming, Serbia

Miško Stanišić is the director and co-founder of Terraforming, an NGO based in Serbia dedicated to improving education about the Holocaust, combating antisemitism and anti-Roma discrimination, and addressing historical distortion. With 20 years in memorialization and education, Stanišić has developed exhibitions, training courses, and award-winning resources and has led international initiatives on education about the Holocaust and genocide of the Roma. Since 2023, he has chaired the team on developing

the IHRA’s Recommendations for teaching about the genocide of the Roma. Born in Sarajevo, Stanišić has lived in Sweden, and the Netherlands and is now based in Novi Sad, Serbia.

“Pasostar ando Prastape – Breaking into a Gallop” is an international project that brings together educators, museum professionals, and policymakers from across Europe and supports the implementation of the IHRA Recommendations on Teaching and Learning about the Persecution and Genocide of the Roma during the Nazi Era. The issues discussed included the difference between the persecution and the genocide of the Roma, the context of developing the recommendations, the role of language in speaking about this minority, the marginalization of the history of the Roma, and current anti-Roma attitudes and behaviours across Europe.∎
