Pink Triangle Legacies Project, USA

Dr. Jake Newsome is a scholar of German and American LGBTQ+ history, whose research educates global audiences. He is the founder and director of the Pink Triangle Legacies Project, a grassroots initiative that honors the memory of the Nazis queer and trans victims and carries on their legacy by fighting homophobia and transphobia today through education, empowerment, and advocacy. In addition to serving as a historical advisor for film projects, exhibits, and plays, Newsome has been invited by the French,

UK, and US governments to speak about the important lessons that LGBTQ+ history has for all of us today.

The Pink Triangle Legacies Project is a grassroots initiative that honors the memory of the Nazis’ queer and trans victims and carries on their legacy by fighting homophobia and transphobia today through education, empowerment, and advocacy. The discussion concerned the long silence and marginalization of the topic, the challenges of the initiative, which included funding and limited staff capacity, the diverse activity of the project team, including publication of books and online resources, research into the individual stories of the people affected by the persecution, and organizing meetings and lectures, as well as their future plans.
