ACEM calls for globally harmonised
standards and elimination of
"trade-disruptive environments"

(in 15 countries). ACEM says
that the aggregated turnover of
the PTW sector in Europe
(manufacturing, plus upstream
and downstream activities)
amounted to Euro 27 billion in
2011, employing some 125,000
people, with their membership
accounting for 90% of the
European powered twowheeler, tricycle and
quadricycle production.
ACEM's members are eying
opportunities in growing
markets such as Brazil, China,
India, Indonesia, Malaysia, the
ACEM Secretary General Jacques Compagne expanded on the proposal he
tabled at the ACEM/ANCMA conference at the Milan show in November last
year where he suggested that an additional or alternate approach where
agreements on harmonisation of standards and regulations could not be
reached in a timely manner would instead be to adopt a policy of “mutual
recognition” agreements of existing standards. At this ACEM conference he
