Dainese, the Italian motorcycle gear and apparel company, has been sold by Carlyle Group for € 1 to London based Arcmont Asset Management and HPS Investment Partners. The transfer of ownership follows a period of financial losses at Dainese, with the company reportedly being some € 300 million in debt. The new owners have acquired Dainese in full as part of a restructuring plan- essentially a debt for equity swap( aka a ' debtor in possession ' acquisition) that gets Carlyle off the hook for part of their original acquisition cost only. This is the latest stage in a fall from grace at the hands of sequential Private Equity investors. Founder Leo Dainese first sold the business he had loving built to Investcorp( the Bahrain Sovereign Wealth Fund) for € 285m in 2014. Investcorp financed that acquisition with credit provided by, yes, Arcmont and HPS. Investcorp flipped Dainese to Carlyle Group for an absurd enterprise value of € 630 million in 2022. In the Land of The Usurers, Dainese is now what is known as a ' Distressed Asset '.

Spain- registrations to July + 9.95 %

In Q4, 2024, the motorcycle market in Spain saw noticeably fewer regulation deadline beating Euro 5 / Euro 5 + preregistrations than was the case elsewhere. The most recent data from ANESDOR, the motorcycle industry association in Spain( January to July 2025) show the motorcycle market at + 9.95 %( 141,249 units). This suggests that the ' pre-reg ' seen in January and February 2025 was not as severe as elsewhere, and that it has not been ' worked out ' with the recent sales data showing genuine growth over 2024 levels. Indeed, June was a ' bumper ' month with growth of + 20.35 %( 24,908 units) over June 2024 and July has proven to have been even stronger at + 25.78 %( 28,369 units) following the + 9.82 %( 23,183 units) seen in May 2025. In the first seven months of the year total PTW registrations( including mopeds) were + 9.29( 148,594). Honda remains market share leader YTD with a 23.2 % slice of the action, ahead of Yamaha second( 15.3 %), Zontes third( 8.2 %), Voge fourth( 6.5 %) and BMW fifth( 5.7 %). They are followed by Kymco, SYM, Kawasaki, Piaggio and QJMotor. The Yamaha NMAX 125 continues as the best-selling model
The latest data from the German motorcycle industry association( IVM) show motorcycle registrations for the period to July 2025 following the same trend as that seen elsewhere with the decline in new model registrations slowing, but, in Germany ' s case, still down by a massive-25.95 % with 70,172 units sold YTD. For the record registrations were recorded as-51.15 % in January,-46.28 % in February,-33.56 % in March,-20.16 % in April,-21.47 % in May,- 18.18 % in June and down to-8.08 % in July at 12,095 units sold. The trend appears therefore to be headed back towards some kind of equilibrium and is ' only ' some 24,500 units down on the first seven months of 2024, with five months to go. Our analysis reveals a real world ' best guesstimate ' forecast of a German market that will be some 3 % to 5 % down by the end of 2025( compared to an equally weighted 2024-unit number)- something like 3,000 to 6,000 new units down. A112,096 units YTD(-25.20 %) total PTW registrations are consistent with the modestly improving trend. That said, along with the UK, the German market continues to see way more dealership closures( some retirements, some sales, some bankruptcies) and P & A / G & A vendors getting into difficulties than is usual. The list of top selling models and brand market shares remain pretty much the same compared to 2024, but on lower numbers. The traditional top seller- the BMW R 1300 GS- remains top of the pile in Germany, followed by the Z900, CBR 650 R, Z650 and CB 750 Hornet. With 11 models in the 50 best-selling list YTD, it ' s no surprise that BMW remains top dog in its home market, with lower sales but a slightly increased 22.10 % market share( 15,476 units). This was followed by Honda( 20.80 %/ 14,564 units), Kawasaki( 15.47 %/ 10,832), Yamaha fourth( 7.29 %/ 5,101 units) followed by Triumph in fifth with a 6.75 % share on 4,724 units sold.
