Italy new motorcycle and PTW registrations at record highs
The latest available data from the Italian motorcycle industry association ( ANCMA ) show new motorcycle registrations in Italy for the first six months of 2024 up by a very healthy + 7.75 % at 96,411 units , having been positive for four out of the six months so far , and all three months of Q2 . This has meant another post 2013 record for the Italian market for the first half of the year . Total PTW registrations were + 6.21 % YTD at an unprecedented 203,874 units - also a post dawn of creation record for the first half of the year in Italy ! The top-selling motorcycle YTD was the Benelli TRK 702 / X ( 4,344 units sold in H1 ). This was followed by the BMW 1300 GS with 3,394 units sold . Unusually , in a sea of scooters , this placed the leading two larger displacement motorcycles in 7th and 10th spot respectively in terms of all PTW sales in Italy YTD . Indeed , the Honda Africa Twin was in 16th spot with 2,677 units sold YTD . Honda ' s SH 125 , 150 and 350 were the top-sellers overall , followed by the KYMCO Agility 125 R16 in fourth , Piaggio Liberty 125 ABS and Honda X-ADV 750 in fifth and sixth spots . Maxi and ADV style scooters remain strong sellers in Italy - Honda ' s ADV 350 and 750 , Yamaha ' s XMAX 300 and TMAX , Piaggio ' s Beverly 300 , the BMW R 1300 GS and Honda Africa Twin among them . Total Scooter sales were 107,463 units (+ 4.87 %) in Italy in the first half year . For the record : 2023 motorcycle sales were 145,405 units in 2023 (+ 14.88 %), with all months in positive territory - the best Italian annual market numbers since before the 2007 / 2008 financial crisis and the resulting Great Recession .
According to the latest available data from ANESDOR , the motorcycle industry association in Spain , motorcycle registrations were up by + 4.43 % for the first six months of 2024 at 105,912 units - the best first half year in Spain since before the 2007 / 2008 financial crisis and resulting in the great recession . January , February and April were up by + 17.23 %, + 22.52 % and + 22.63 % respectively , but while registrations were down ( mostly modestly down ) in the other three months of H1 overall , there had been a sustainable level of market growth in Spain through to June 30 , 2024 . Honda was market share leader , selling 23,916 units in Spain in H1 for a 22.6 % market share . It was followed by Yamaha ( 16,673 units for a 15.7 % share ), KYMCO ( 6.7 % share ), BMW ( 6.1 % share ) and Piaggio fifth , with a 5.0 % market share . The best-selling model in Spain in H1 was the Yamaha NMAX 125 ( 4,168 units ), followed by the Honda PCX 125 , Yamaha X-Max 125 , KYMCO Agility
In total PTW terms , the Italian market was + 17.94 % in 2023 , with a massive 318,948 units registered . Scooters were up by + 20.64 % at 173,543 units . The top selling motorcycle was the Benelli TRK 502 / X ( 4,075 units ), followed by the Honda Africa Twin ( 3,880 ) in a market where Maxi Scooters and ADV / Enduro style machines continue to gain share .

City 125 and Honda SH 125I . The top selling larger displacement motorcycle was the Yamaha ADV 350 . It was the mid-range 125 to 750 cc displacement sector that grew most strongly in H1 in Spain , at + 12.7 % ( 33 , 668 units ). Road-going motorcycles were + 11 % ( 46,272 units ), with off-roaders + 1 % at 3,901 units . Scooter sales were essentially flat at -1 % ( 55,656 units ). Jose Maria Riano , the General Secretary of ANESDOR , reports that the total fleet ( Park ) of motorcycles and light vehicles in Spain in the first half of 2024 had passed more than six million motorcycles , scooters and light vehicles , with an average age of around 17.4 years . For the record : 2023 saw motorcycle registrations up by + 13.44 % in Spain ( 199,120 units sold ). In displacement terms , it was larger cylinder capacity motorcycles ( and therefore , typically , the most expensive models ) that were the highest growth sector in Spain in 2023 with machines over 750 cc up by + 24.1 % and those between 125 cc and 750 cc up by + 18.2 %. Scooters continued to be the most popular single sector in Spain in 2023 , with registrations up by + 14.3 % ( 110,467 units - some 55 % of sales ).
