5G , in addition to providing a better mobile data service experience with higher speed , lower latency and more simultaneous devices per coverage area , also brings benefits like massive IoT , Network Slicing , Gaming , VR and AR , among others .
Furthermore , it will enable new use cases and ‘ playing fields ’ that will be key to the current needs and priorities of companies .
For example , in the media and entertainment industry , improvements in bandwidth and low latency will drive innovations in content broadcasting and interaction , such as VR video streaming and 360 ° vision for gaming environments distributed across different locations . Using technologies like 5G Stand Alone ( SA ) to support 4K / 8K video streaming , VR / AR , and the use of drones with speeds of 1Gbps + DL , 200 – 300Mbps UL , and 10 milliseconds E2E latency will achieve a unique experience in live events .
In the Industry 4.0 sector , which requires flexibility , automation and digitalization , 5G SA will benefit its critical mission operations by leveraging uniform coverage , soft handover , low latency , high speed , and the high availability and reliability of this new technology . Sectors such as manufacturing plants , mines and treatment plants are
among those that will demand extensive 5G SA applications .
Similarly , in the transport and logistics sector , from public transportation in cities to highway operations , as well as port and ship operations , 5G SA development will support High-Speed WiFi on passenger transport vehicles , HD video for real-time security and information , all to provide fast , secure and flexible services .
In Colombia , Claro has been a pioneer in this field , conducting the first real 5G demonstrations in 2018 . They also launched the first 5G pilot in Medellin in an uncontrolled environment , in collaboration with the city ’ s municipality , Ruta N and Nokia , within virtual education classrooms .
