We interviewed some freshman ,who are studying to become a teacher of English, at the Universty of Applied siences Windesheim. Tips and answers are of course provided by some of the most dedicated sophomores.
What was the hardest module in the first year?
Well what I found hardest in the beginning was the LSD writing test. Only a few of my classmates passed that test. It is obligatory to pass it in the first year which increases the pressure.
Was it hard to go abroad alone for such a long time?
No it wasn’t hard at all. I won’t deny that you will have some difficulty leaving your parents behind in the beginning, but at the end you will look back at it and say that it was all worth it.
If it becomes too hard you can always visit your parents for 2 days, if you go to the United Kingdom of course. For the people who want to go to America or Australia teach your parents how to use Skype or FaceTime. It’s a great way to keep in touch, because it is for free and you can see each other as well.
Did your stay abroad cost you a lot of money?
I would be lying, if I would say that it did not. I have been to London where they use the British pounds. Everything was really expensive for me after converting from Euros to pounds. But don’t forget that you get a scholarship when being abroad. I got the minimum, so it didn’t help me out that much but there were plenty of people who were able to pay everything from the scholarship they received. My tip before going abroad, save money! It is really hard to find a job abroad, so keep in mind that you need enough money to cover your whole stay in advance. Keep in mind, it is all worth it in the end!
