Local DJs Pyra-C stopped in to tell us a bit about what it is they do, what makes a good DJ
and provide a few comparisons between their music and giant mech battles.
INSIGHT: What are dubstep and trapstep? Tell me like
I’m five, basically.
of music? Matt, I know you as a metal drummer, so this
is sort of a surprising direction to hear you’re going in.
NICK BRITTON: I’m really not sure how I would describe either. Dubstep, to me, is robotic. Heavily modulated basslines.
M: I thought you would say something like that.
[laughs].
MATT WALDROP: That seems to be the debate that a
lot of people are having.
N: We both have a background in metal. I fronted two
local heavy metal groups.
I: Who were they?
N: If I had to describe trap, I would say it has a hip-hop,
electronic vibe to it. The drums really make trap what
it is.
N: Leave a Mark and 10th Hail Mary.
I: And you met Matt through that?
M: Yeah. The hi-hats and snare rolls really set it off.
I: So what brought you two together to make this kind
