dropped out. At 30 he gave up hope and
swallowed a bottle of pills. Somehow, he
survived.
He carried on, remarried and continued to
tangle with substance abuse. The stroke,
says Causey, brought him to a place where
he could find God and rebuild himself.
“Once I had the stroke and realized
how insignificant I was, how helpless I
was by myself, my life did change,” said
Causey. “Things that were once extremely
important, they’re just not that important
anymore.”
A few years after the stroke, Causey found
himself in church, listening to a medley
fusion of “Amazing Grace” and “My Chains
Are Gone,” and it acted like a shock to his
system, driving him to prayer that he’d one
