time producer, with director Play Pendergrass
jumping on board to film both “Home” and
“Be My Love,” Searcy’s second video. Both
clips have steadily garnered attention on
YouTube, thanks to Pendergrass’ slick, modern style and Searcy’s rapid-fire, confessional
cadences.
“It’s a stress reliever, how I get out my emotions about what’s going on in my life,” said
Searcy. “Some people would go to a counselor, I talk about it over a beat.”
Which isn’t to say that Searcy’s work is depressing, even if it deals in darkness. There’s
hope placed front and center with pain, with
a candidness atypical of rap’s sometimes
boisterous posturing that, Searcy says, connects with listeners who have been to those
same, dark places. That sense of depth is what
caught Blue’s interest.
INSIGHT
“I always wanted to produce to a bigger
purpose,” said Blue, himself a rapper in addition to his production work. Blue has seen
firsthand the fan reactions to the music, their
insistence that the songs have helped bolster
their will to handle their own issues.
“His music is important to people,” said Blue.
