INSIGHT: We’re sure you get this all the time,
but how do you manage to get to every
house in the world in one night?
SANTA: Well, it’s mathematically sound.
The sleigh uses a space-age, light-weight
aluminum alloy as well as high-energy control thrusters mounted on the reindeer and
navigation controls coordinated by satellite
working with the natural spin and curvature
of the Earth to maintain a consistent presence at about 2 a.m. as we sweep through
time zones.
INSIGHT: So… magic?
SANTA: Sure, kid.
INSIGHT: What about all the cookies you get
from the houses you visit? Surely you get full
after just a few stops, and there are billions
of homes in the world giving away cookies.
SANTA: Well, yes. There was a time I’d eat
nearly half the world’s supply of cookies in
an evening, but Mrs. Claus has me on a diet,
seeing as it’s already hard to find bright, red
jumpsuits with white fur piping, let alone in
a 56 long. I give what I don’t eat to the elves.
They’ve created a little economy based on
cookies!
INSIGHT: You pay them in cookies?
SANTA: Cookies, goodwill, stock options.
Don’t you worry about the elves.
INSIGHT: So, how do you know who’s been
naughty and who’s been nice every year?
SANTA: Now that’s an interesting story, but
we’re going to have to leave that one up to
“magic,” too, because it gets even more complicated than how we get that sleigh around
the world in a single night.
INSIGHT: How about this, then: why do you
do it? Why go around giving people you
don’t know gifts one day a year
SANTA: It’s not about the gifts. Every year
I go out and I give people a reminder that
they can have Christmas every day if they
give more than they get and worry less
about what they’ve got and make sure their
neighbor has enough. That’s Christmas,
looking out for friends, family and even people we don’t know. It’s nice to have a new
toy to play with, but it’s even better to have
one to share. Now, is there anything else you
wanted to know?
INSIGHT: No, SANTA, we think that says it
all. Looking forward to seeing you the 13th!
SANTA: Looking forward to being there!
Now, where did I leave that stack of reindeer
games? ✤
