madame, according to Burton. When rehearsals have
collapsed into chitchat and jokes, it’s Madame Aria
Charms that has to break it up and get everyone back
to work.
“I’ll tell people that I’m sorry for being tough on them
after rehearsals,” said Burton, but then she laughed. “I
keep b****es in line!”
The show ends after Lamour exits the stage, leaving the
crowd shaken and wanting more. The performers take
bows as they’re introduced, and the audience roars.
Once the troupe steps out of the bar’s heat into the
cool night air, they’re immediately beset at all sides by
adoring fans. The initial call for auditions earlier in the
year mustered three prospects, all of whom joined the
troupe. By the end of the night, Kitchen has a mass of
volunteers who want to take to the stage, which will
help fill out the planned two hours of entertainment at
the troupe’s first full-length show in early 2014.
“People who grew up on stage dancing and performing, it becomes a thing you did as a child,” said Kitchen,
“but this is a way to continue that as an adult. We have
big dreams for the show.” •
