Waste Management Learnings from Indigenous Australia

Local waste management solutions are affected by many factors including the local cultural norms and the physical location and proximity to reprocessing facilities and end markets.
Two indigenous team leaders from Wadeye, a remote community in the NT, will explain how they, with the assistance of the Tangaroa Blue Foundation( featured on the panel), have successfully introduced new recycling and litter reduction programs in their indigenous community.

Visions for Future Battery Recycling

Electronic devices have become an indispensable part of modern life and their dependence on batteries is unavoidable. The growth in electric bikes and vehicles is also booming, as is interest in energy storage solutions associated with renewable energy technologies. The need to keep single-use and rechargeable batteries out of landfill is now well-established.
The seminar will feature a discussion panel of well-informed, solutions focused stakeholders who can share their vision, views and ideas for the future of battery recycling in Australia.

Planning for Success- A Story of New Buildings in Australia

Microbeads

Did you know that many personal care products, particularly skin care and some toothpastes contain small pieces of plastic known as‘ microbeads’ and that these pieces of plastic pollute our waterways and can end up in the food chain?
Governments from around the world are banning the use of microbeads with Australia starting to take action with a call for a‘ voluntary phase out’ of products using microbeads.
This topical issue will be discussed by our panel of local and international experts. Facilitated by Dr Kathy Townsend, University of Queensland

Sydney- Commercial Waste Transporters Code of Practice
3:15pm- 4:00pm
This Code of Practice is ground breaking in Australia and will be of interest to collection contractors and Council’ s looking to review and improve their commercial waste collections in their CBD area. Developed by the City of Sydney, Transport for NSW and the Waste Contractors and Recyclers Association of NSW( WCRA) to increase the efficiency and safety of commercial collections. Collection times are a key issue covered in the Code of Practice.
