NEWS FOX AND FOX’S MAYFIELD ESSENCE NAMED ‘BEST ENGLISH SPARKLING WINE’ The highly respected Decanter magazine has just published the results of its authoritative panel tasting on English sparkling wine; tasting over 90 English sparkling wines from all over the country, the panel placed Fox and Fox’s ‘Mayfield Essence Brut Pure Chardonnay 2011’ from Mayfield in East Sussex at the very top, rating it as ‘outstanding’. Sussex dominated the results with Sugrue Pierre’s ‘The Trouble with Dreams’ wine also rated as outstanding and ranked 2nd coming from West Sussex. Of the top fifteen rated wines, five came from East Sussex, and four from West Sussex with two from Dorset, one each from Hampshire and Surrey and one East Sussex/Kent blend. The accolade comes twelve years after vineyard owners Gerard and Jonica Fox first planted vines at Hobdens Vineyard near Mayfield, the smaller of two vineyards they own near the village where they farm about 10 hectares of Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Pinot Meunier and Pinot Gris. "We were blown away by the quality of Fox and Fox’s Mayfield Essence and we sold out our first allocation within hours,” said Mike Watson, owner of The Secret Cellar wine merchant in Tunbridge Wells. “Congratulations to Jonica and Gerard for making such a sublime wine.” “We love being grower-producers and work nonstop to make distinctive and delicious wines that have all the quality of good Champagne, but with our own unique English twist,” said Jonica Fox. “Recognition like this is just wonderful and makes all the hard work worthwhile; it’s great to see so many of our vineyard neighbours doing so well too.” LEGENDARY ‘MOD’ PIZZA COMES TO BRIGHTON MARINA Groundbreaking US Pizza brand, MOD, are bringing their superfast, made-to-order pizza and salad offering to Brighton’s busy marina.
