NEWS BURGESS HILL VET HELPS TACKLE RABIES IN INDIA Veterinary Surgeon, Jo Iddon, from Heath Veterinary Clinic in Burgess Hill, recently took a trip to India to aid the work of charity, Mission Rabies. She raised the money for her charity visit by holding a pub quiz fundraiser in September, and her work while in India involved vaccinating stray dogs against the disease and marking them with a red spot, so that people are aware that the dog has been immunised. India is the world’s hotspot for rabies, with an estimated death toll of 30,000 per year. Mission Rabies, however, has various projects to combat the issue, including teaching vets the skills to run neutering and vaccine campaigns and distributing educational materials to schools, so that children can learn how to avoid and prevent being bitten. The project Jo was involved in is the monthly mass vaccination drive, which has been successful in vaccinating over 60,000 dogs so far.  Sarah Solomon, owner of Heath Veterinary Clinic, says: “We are so proud of Jo for going to India to use her expertise for such a great cause. She raised over £750, which is fabulous and found her visit to India a real eye opener.” Jo adds: “I was really looking forward to visiting India to help this great charity by offering them my skills as a veterinary surgeon. I’m very appreciative of all the support I’ve received from my work, friends, family and people in the local community. The trip was very interesting and I’m glad I’ve gone a little way towards helping the rabies problem in India.” BRIGHTON NAMES ICONIC OBSERVATION TOWER ‘BRITISH AIRWAYS i360’ Two of the region’s biggest tourism names joined forces at the end of last year as the world’s tallest moving observation tower was named the British Airways i360. employ more than 2,500 staff in Sussex, so putting our name to the i360 and helping to promote even more tourism in the area made perfect sense."
