Movies coming
out in 2019
2019 is the year set to be filled with
greatness as the entertainment industry
heightens their content from good to
amazing.
Before the ending of 2018, we had the
privilege of getting new movies such as -
small foot, spider-man: into the spider- verse,
Creed II, the DC film - Aqua man, Mary
Poppins returns and more. Now stepping into
2019, we are welcomed with the remake of
Lion King, continuation of MIB, x-men, Toy
story 4, Avengers and much many more to
come. Out of all the movies, Mary Poppins
and The Lion King have become the centre of
attention, with Mary Poppins receiving many
critics whist the lion King is being awaited.
‘Blunt
unquestionably
makes Mary
Poppins her
own….’
Mary Poppins returns - What did the world
think?
Mary Poppins, a story by Pamela Lyndon
Travers, was released in 1964. The character,
Mary Poppins, was first played by Julie
Andrews who was famously known for her
role as ‘Maria’ in the sound of music. Now
after 54 years later, Mary Poppins returns
with the character played by the actress,
Emily Blunt. The film received many praises,
with ratings of 4-5 stars. The rolling stone
magazine commented - ‘Blunt, all drollness
and dazzle, adds needed spice to the
‘Completely
derivative of the
classic, but failed
in almost every
regard’
heaping spoonfuls of sugar.’ The common sense
media also commented – ‘Blunt unquestionably
makes Mary Poppins her own while also keeping
nostalgic viewers happy with tributes to the
original in this whimsical, playful sequel.’
The audience shared their positive insight,
saying- ‘Movies like Mary Poppins Returns aren't
made that often with this level of care for the
original piece, the homages to the original can be
seen all throughout the film, musical nods, lines,
objects that were in the original, and the list goes
on…..’ and – ‘It`s an incredible movie! It brings so
much joy with the songs, story and acting! Emily
Blunt is amazing! A sequel that honours the
original!’
However the movie faced negative views, with
the journalist, ‘Michael O’Sullivan’ of the
Washington Post, saying – ‘I mean, homage is
one thing, but this reeks less of nostalgia than
sweat. There is so little tolerance for spontaneity,
in a film that feels calibrated to the millimetre to
be magical, that reactions like delight and
surprise – when they occur at all- feel
manufactured.’
Audiences have also shared their comments -
‘Saw the movie with my family who liked it, but
was an endurance test for me. “Mary Poppins
returns” was completely derivative of the classic,
but failed in almost every regard….’
